I remember sitting in a cafe waiting to meet Kellie Carter-Bell, our guest of honour for our launch of OKT. As soon as Kellie sat down and started talking I felt her raw emotion and knew that the 160 people who would be attending our launch would have an experience they wouldn’t forget.
Our aim at the launch was to raise awareness of OKT and illustrate our future goals and to raise much needed funds. Also our hope was that by hearing Kellie Carter Bell’s story, let people know what it is like to be in an abusive relationship and how through strength and courage one can start a new life. Kellie spoke with such raw honesty that everyone in the room listened without judgement and was in awe of her courage. Her family were all crying, as were many people in the room. We proudly honour Kellie for her bravery and award her as an ambassador and advocate for OKT.
If it takes a village to raise a child, then it takes a community to come together and help those of us in need. With every act of kindness, someone is being helped.
Amelia Earhart once said,”A single act of Kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”
In essence OKT is the root and we want to create as many trees as we can.
Putting together a launch takes a lot of work. We have a small but very dedicated team who are passionate about OKT and we are very excited about the future.
